URGENT CALL FOR SOLIDARITY WITH TRACKS CENTER in SUDAN!

URGENT CALL FOR SOLIDARITY WITH TRACKS CENTER in SUDAN!

RELEASE THE 8 HUMAN RIGHT DEFENDERS NOW!

The Regional Coalition of the Women Human Rights Defenders in the Middle East andIMG_1365 North Africa was informed of the arrest of two WHRDs, Arwa al El-Rabie’and Imany-Layla Raye, among 6 other human rights defenders, after they appeared for court on the 22nd of May 2016. They were arrested until further investigations takes place.

The Sudanese authorities have raided the TRACKS Center on February 29, 2016 and have confiscated computers and personal mobile phones of those who work at the center as well as people who were just visiting the center. Since then, the Sudanese authorities have been calling various team members and supporters of the center to investigations.  On May 22, 2016 the detainees were given a notification of the trial without prior explanation.

The detainees are still being held up to this minute under custody without the right to visitations. The conditions of the prison are unsanitary, lacking water and electricity. Many of the detainees are suffering from serious health conditions.

With Sudan targeting human rights defenders and violating its commitment to international law, the Regional Coalition of WHRD-MENA is calling for widespread solidarity with human rights defenders in Sudan. We are also asking for appropriate measures to intervene with the Sudanese government to release them immediately. We at the WHRD-MENA coalition are concerned about the detainees’ safety and health. We are calling for a solidarity campaign to demand the release of the detainees immediately.
